Can a 6th grader date a 8th grader? Of course they can not. What do you call a 12TH grader? Is it okay for a 10th grader to date an 8th grader? That's a tough question. Do both parents approve?

I would think that would be the best way of figuring out. Should an 8th grader date a 7th grader? Should a 5th grader date a 8th grader? There are some innate differences in girls and boys but it's not that boys are 3 years behind girls.

As a high school teacher I can say that boys are very much less mature on average than girls. Not all boys are less mature and some girls are very immature, but more times than not boys are very much less mature than girls.

As a former high school teacher and a parent of 3 high school aged kids I don't see what you see. Girls tend to physically mature before girls but cognitively and emotionally boys and girls in high school are very much on the same level, I would even give the edge to boys being more emotionally mature in high school then girls. I would say earlier if it is a group thing. My Dad always said no dating until I was When I was around 14 I wanted to go on a date but knew he wouldn't let me. So we got a bunch of other couples together to go with us movies and I told my Dad it couldn't possibly be a date with that many people there and that it was instead a "gathering".
He told me there was no debating that logic and I got to go. And then never again until I was just about to turn 16 and had my first serious boyfriend. Nothing unchaperoned until they're ish and we'd have to get to know him first. I like Jo Anne's double date idea. I also don't mind the idea of a group if year olds walking the fair together but I also remember the wacky stunts and cover-ups my friends and I pulled when we were that age. We always found ways to sneak off alone.
