In Germany the church forms a creepy para-state, having seats in ethical committees and drawing millions of euros of tax money. I'd say that the actual differences between the two dating cultures are smaller than between different dates and that it's more subtle than the man always having to pay for everything in the US vs always splitting everything in Germany.
